About

Medical disclaimer

This disclaimer governs all content on Carb Counting Hub (https://carbcountinghub.org). It is written in plain language because the intended audience is people living with diabetes, the people who care for them, and the clinicians who counsel them.

Educational use only

Carb Counting Hub does not provide medical advice. Information on this site is for educational purposes only and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always seek the advice of your physician, endocrinologist, certified diabetes care and education specialist (CDCES), registered dietitian, or other qualified health provider with any questions you may have regarding a medical condition, insulin dosing, carbohydrate targets, or the use of any application discussed here.

No professional relationship

Reading content on Carb Counting Hub does not establish any patient-clinician relationship. The authors of this site are not your dietitian or endocrinologist; they have not seen your laboratory data, your medication list, your CGM curves, your pregnancy status, or your kidney function. The articles cannot account for any of those things. Decisions specific to you must be made by a clinician who has access to your individual case.

No endorsement

The mention of any application, device, therapy, or measurement on Carb Counting Hub is not an endorsement and does not imply suitability for any particular person. PlateLens, MyFitnessPal, Cronometer, MacroFactor, Carb Manager, mySugr, Glucose Buddy, Spike, Diabetes:M, One Drop, and Bezzy are trademarks of their respective owners. Dexcom G7, Abbott FreeStyle Libre 3, Medtronic Guardian Connect, and Eversense E3 are trademarks of their respective owners.

Regulatory status

References to FDA clearance status reflect publicly available information at the time of writing and may change. Always verify current regulatory status with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or, in other jurisdictions, with the relevant national regulator (e.g., the European Medicines Agency, the UK Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, Health Canada, or the Therapeutic Goods Administration) before relying on it for any clinical purpose.

No specific dose, ratio, or factor recommendations

Carb Counting Hub never publishes specific insulin doses, insulin-to-carb ratios, correction factors, or carbohydrate targets. The articles describe the concepts in general terms only. Any specific number that applies to you must come from your prescribing clinician.

CGM trend is the better signal

When a stated carbohydrate count from any application disagrees with the post-prandial CGM trend, the CGM trend is, in nearly all cases, the more trustworthy signal. The application produces an estimate; the CGM produces a measurement. This is general guidance, not a substitute for clinician interpretation of your individual CGM data.

Emergencies

If you suspect a diabetes emergency — severe hypoglycemia, suspected diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), or hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state (HHS) — contact emergency services immediately. Do not consult a website. Do not wait. This applies to any reader of this material, regardless of context.

Cited sources

Real journal names appear in the references at the end of clinical articles. Author/title combinations represent the editorial team's synthesis of the literature and are intended for orientation, not for citation; readers preparing manuscripts or clinical materials should consult PubMed and the original sources directly.

Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the editorial team and contributors of Carb Counting Hub disclaim any liability for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages arising out of or in connection with the use of, or reliance on, any content on this site.
