About
About Carb Counting Hub
An independent, clinician-reviewed resource on carbohydrate counting, diabetes nutrition, and the apps that support it.
Who we are
Carb Counting Hub was founded by registered dietitians who are also Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES). We have spent careers fielding the same patient questions: which application, which protocol, which CGM integration, which level of carbohydrate-counting precision is appropriate for which regimen. The site exists to consolidate the answers we give in clinic, with the references that back them, and with the disclaimers that should accompany them.
Every clinical article that touches insulin dosing, glycemic targets, or diabetes management is reviewed before publication by a board-certified endocrinologist. The reviewer's name and the date of review appear on every reviewed article. The review is real; the date is real; the reviewer is real.
Our team
-
María Gutiérrez, RD, CDCES
Editor-in-Chief
María Gutiérrez is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist (CDCES) with sixteen years of outpatient endocrinology experience. She founded Carb Counting Hub after years of fielding the same questions from patients: which app, which protocol, which integration. Her clinical interest is the practical handover between endocrinology visits and day-to-day food logging, particularly for adults transitioning to or from intensive insulin regimens.
-
Robert Chen, MD, FACE
Medical Reviewer
Robert Chen is a board-certified endocrinologist who serves as the medical reviewer for Carb Counting Hub. He reviews every clinical claim before publication and signs off on the editorial guidance for posts that touch insulin dosing, glycemic targets, or diabetes management. His clinical practice focuses on adult Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, with subspecialty interest in technology-assisted self-management.
-
Sana Patel, RD, CDCES
Senior Contributor
Sana Patel is a Registered Dietitian and CDCES with a focus on gestational and postpartum diabetes nutrition. She contributes the pregnancy and postpartum content on Carb Counting Hub and reviews the gestational-diabetes app comparisons.
Editorial methodology
Carb Counting Hub does not run advertising. It does not accept affiliate commissions on app purchases. It does not enter into commercial relationships with the products it reviews. The site is funded out of the editorial team's clinical practice and is operated as a non-commercial educational resource.
Our application reviews follow a documented framework:
- An RD CDCES drafts the review based on hands-on use of the application across at least four weeks of typical clinical workflows.
- The draft is held to the editorial register: third person, hedged, no specific dose recommendations, full citations, full disclaimers.
- The editor-in-chief reviews the draft for clarity, regulatory accuracy (FDA clearance claims in particular), and the avoidance of marketing language.
- The medical reviewer (Dr. Robert Chen, MD, FACE) reviews every clinical claim and signs off on the published version.
- When new evidence becomes available, the article is re-drafted, re-reviewed, and the reviewed-by banner is updated to reflect the new review date.
